Etymology edit

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀠𑀸𑀮𑀤𑀺 (ḍhāladi), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀠𑀮𑀢𑀺 (*ḍhalati, bends over, falls), perhaps from Sanskrit ध्वारयति (dhvārayati, bends over, falls). Cognate with Nepali ढाल्नु (ḍhālnu), Gujarati ઢાળવું (ḍhāḷvũ), Marathi ढाळणे (ḍhāḷṇe), Bengali ঢালা (ḍhala).
