From Pali vāsanā (that which remains in mind; mental imprint; mental impression; present consciousness of past perceptions; tendency of the past; etc), from Sanskrit वासना (vāsanā, idem). Cognate with Modern Khmer វាសនា (viəsaʼnaa), វាស្នា (viəhniə); Burmese ဝါသနာ (wasa.na).
