Etymology 1 edit
The first syllable, 博 (MC pak), may be related to Proto-Tai *paːkᴰ (“mouth”) (whence Zhuang bak).
It is attested in Hanshu as the name of one of the six counties of the Nanhai Commandery (南海郡) during the Western Han. Compare 縛婁 (OC *baːɡs/baɡ ɡ·roː/ɡ·ro), the name of a state of the Baiyue mentioned by the Lüshi Chunqiu.
