Etymology

Compound of 無理 (muri, unreasonable) +‎ 強い (shii, 連用形 (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb 強いる (shiiru, to force, to compel)). The shii changes to jii as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
