Derived from (mi, the 未然形 (mizenkei, incomplete or irrealis form) of 上一段活用 (kami ichidan katsuyō, upper monograde conjugation) verb 見る (miru), “to look, see, watch) +‎ (-yu, passive, spontaneous, or potential verb suffix).[1][2]
