German

Etymology

edit

Iterative of bossen (to beat), variant of German boßen (to beat, to thrash), also extant as German boßeln from Middle High German bōzelen, bōzeln, iterative of Middle High German bōzen (to beat), from Old High German bōzan (to beat), which is cognate to English beat. The form bossen has soon died out at the beginning of Early New High German, but bosseln is classic.
