Ultimately from Arabic نَارَنْج (nāranj), from Persian نارنگ (nârang), from Sanskrit नारङ्ग (nāraṅga, “orange tree”), itself of uncertain origin, possibly Dravidian. Compare Portuguese laranja, Spanish naranja, English orange.
