Learnedly, from Koine Greek σῠγκᾰλῶ (sunkalô), contracted form of Ancient Greek σῠγκᾰλέω (sunkaléō, to call to council, convoke, convene), συγ- (syg-, with, together) equivalent to συν- (syn-) +‎ καλώ (kaló, to call, summon).
