From Proto-Karen *loŋᴮ (stone, rock) (Luangthongkum, 2019) or *loŋ¹ (idem) (Burling, 1969), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *r-lu(ŋ/k) (stone). Cognate with S'gaw Karen လၢၢ် (luẖ), Western Kayah ꤜꤟꤢꤪ (lo̤a).
