From Pre-Germanic *bʰleh₁wos, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰleh₁-. Kroonen reconstructs an ablauting u-stem, *bʰléh₁-, *bʰl̥h₁- in order to reconcile the vowels of the Germanic word with Latin flāvus (yellow).[1]
