Either these should be deleted as sop, or we are missing face towel, sauna towel, foot towel, football towel, hair towel, dish towel, window towel, cotton towel, terry cloth towel... --Hekaheka (talk) 15:56, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Keep beach and hand, at least: Those two imply a certain size and/or fabric. You don't have a 12"x18" beach towel, you don't have a 4'x6' hand towel Purplebackpack89 (Notes Taken) (Locker) 17:49, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- I would keep these (certainly the first two). A (deprecated template usage) beach towel is not used to dry a beach, and a (deprecated template usage) bath towel is not used to dry a bath. SemperBlotto (talk) 17:56, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Tend towards keep, the word 'beach' doesn't really tell you anything about it, you can't simply look up beach. Mglovesfun (talk) 19:03, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Keep all three as a quick b.g.c. search shows they all pass the WT:COALMINE test. Of the red links, face towel and dish towel pass it too. —Angr 21:33, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- I note that the definition of "hand towel" claims (correctly or not?) that it may also be used for the face. I just call mine a towel. Equinox ◑ 21:48, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Keep all three. All indicate a specific type of towel, although the definitions aren't great. I've expanded beach towel to say that it is typically larger than normal.--Dmol (talk) 22:05, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Lemming tests:
- Pass: “bath towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., “hand towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., “beach towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., “face towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., “dish towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search.
- Fail: “sauna towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., “foot towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., “football towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., “hair towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., “window towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., “cotton towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., “terrycloth towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search.
- The conclusions of other lexicographers aiming at language learners and translaters seem reasonable for such users, as is the omission of such terms from AHD and MWOnline. The lemming test results seem to coincide with COALMINE per Angr. DCDuring TALK 22:42, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Keep all three. They have meanings beyond the sum of their parts. ---> Tooironic (talk) 00:48, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure bath towel — in the States — is used to market a towel of a particular size or range of sizes, and is contrasted with bath sheet, which is used to market a towel of a particular (larger) size or range of sizes. If I'm right, then we need that sense (and the other should be kept as
{{&lit}}
). Not sure about the others.—msh210℠ (talk) 07:16, 7 March 2013 (UTC) - Note. I've just tagged the entries.—msh210℠ (talk) 07:16, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- 'Keep all three, as they are the name of specific types of towel. If you bring a small towel, of the sort normally used to dry your hands and face, to a beach it will still be a hand towel, not a beach towel. — Ungoliant (Falai) 11:17, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- Keep; and I have created (deprecated template usage) handtowel Leasnam (talk) 20:00, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
