From Old Khmer ខ្លាច (khlāca, to quail, to shrink back, to cower; to be fearful, to be afraid; to fear, to be afraid of, to dread; for fear that; etc). Cognate with Khmer ខ្លាច (khlaac). Perhaps corrupted as Thai ขยาด (kà-yàat).
