Possibly from Khmer តង្កៀប (tɑngkiəp, pliers; tongs)[1] or Mon သ္ကေပ်.[1] Compare another Khmer ថ្កៀប (thkiəp), Lao ຕະຂຽບ (ta khīap), ᦑᦰᦵᦆᧇ (t!xeb), Hlai tiep.
