Etymology

From Pali tiracchāna (“animal”, literally “going horizontally; not erect”). Cognate with Old Khmer tirichāna (“animal”), Modern Khmer តិរច្ឆាន (teracchaan), Burmese တိရစ္ဆာန် (ti.rachcan).
