EtymologyEdit

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *siŋ ~ sik ‎(wood). Cognate with Tibetan ཤིང ‎(shing, tree, wood) and Burmese သစ် ‎(sac, log, timber, wood). Compare its phonetic component (OC *siŋ, “new”) and Burmese သစ် ‎(sac, new).
