Category:Swedish class 3 strong verbs

Verbs where the ablaut vowel was followed by a consonant cluster in Proto-Indo-European.

The second type of class 3 strong verb (with original -e-) has become almost indistinguishable from class 4 in Swedish. The only distinction is the vowel length, which is determined by the number of consonants following the vowel. Those verbs with a short vowel (more than one consonant after the vowel), which are mostly original class 3 verbs, have been placed in this category.

The vowel pattern is:

Present tense -i- -e/ä-
Past tense -a-
