- मनस (manasa) वाचा (vācā) कर्मणा (karmaṇā) एकीभवन्तु (ekībhavantu) सर्वकालम् (sarvakālam) (manasa vācā karmaṇā ēkībhavantu sarvakālam) (but doublecheck it before you use it) —Stephen (Talk) 10:47, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you so much Stephen! What would be preferred in this context, एकीभवति or एकीभवन्तु ?
- एकीभवति is the citation form, the basic dictionary form, which is used here only as a link to the page that will eventually be written. एकीभवन्तु is the 3rd-person future plural imperative, so it is the one to use. —Stephen (Talk) 07:49, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Polish nickname?
editIn English it sounds like "orbey" I don't know how it is spelled as I don't speak polish. Can anyone help? I would like to know what it means.
- Is or "or-bee" /ɔrbi/ or "or-bay" /ɔrbɛj/? My closest guess would be "Norbi" /ˈnɔr.bi/, which is simply a diminutive of Norbert. Otherwise no idea. Keφr 17:39, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Chinese for "hand sanitizer"?
editI would request a Chinese tranlation in the English entry, but since we don't have it and it might be deemed SOP I'm just going to ask here.
Google Translate offers 洗手液 (xǐshǒu yè), 免洗洗手液 (miǎn xǐ xǐshǒu yè), 消毒洗手液 (xiāodú xǐshǒu yè) along with two others that seem just like machine translation artifacts.
Taken literally we have "hand washing liquid" - that could also describe any old liquid soap?? Then I think "disinfecting hand washing liquid" - that looks best on the fact of it. But also "disposable hand washing liquid" makes sense as it's probably the kind of small bottle you can carry around as I believe is usual for "hand sanitizer".
But are the longer ones mere descriptions? Maybe people use the short version and everybody knows what it means?? — hippietrail (talk) 05:26, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- 洗手液 (xǐshǒuyè) is the best term for this. --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 05:43, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

editCan someone please translate 'проект памятника умиротворитель Москвы'? Thanks in advance. 77.175.64.145 16:51, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how to say it concisely in English, but it means 'Project of the Memorial "Peacemaker of Moscow" '. Or, if you meant to say "умиротворителя", then it would be 'Project of the Memorial of the Peacemaker of Moscow'. Either way, it probably refers to the project of building some kind of memorial. --WikiTiki89 16:59, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- Agree with the translation. Yes, "умиротвори́тель" should be in the genitive case ("умиротвори́теля") as it seems the origin misses some punctuation (quotes), if "умиротвори́тель Москвы́" is a name of the project/monument. More context would be helpful. --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 01:07, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

Cameron
editWhat is the last name Cameron translated to Latin?
- Surnames usually do not translate. If you insist, then you could say Nasus Pravus, but that is not actually a Latin surname. Sounds funny. —Stephen (Talk) 21:34, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- Alternatively, the name Cameron is occasionally Latinized as a third declension noun Camero (genitive Cameronis). The Romans didn't use this name, but 17th-19th century writers did. —Mr. Granger (talk • contribs) 00:05, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

- Pain broke me
- Faith healed me
- Stronger, wiser, happier me

- שְׁבָרַנִי כְּאֵב
- רָפְאָה לִי אֱמוּנָה
- אֶתְחַזֵּק, אֶחְכַּם, אֶשְׂמַח
- The last line really means "I (will) grow stronger, I (will) grow wiser, I am/will be happy". --WikiTiki89 19:29, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- I would not use the vowel points in a tattoo:

רפאה לי אמונה |

Proper English
editI do not know where to ask this but here, so here is my question: could someone tell me how to improve my English in this sentence: 'Without it, our world will be bleak, dark and cold – hardly warmed and enlivened by an artificial sun such as the one in the One State'? My main concern is the bold part, is there another way to put it while still saying what it says? Thanks in advance. 83.83.1.229 17:21, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- It looks fine to me. But it would help if I knew what "One State" meant. --WikiTiki89 19:38, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
Oh sorry, the One State is a name for a totalitarian state in the novel We, by Yevgeny Zamyatin. I'm writing a paper about it. English is not my native language, but still...education these days demands that millions of people who barely speak English properly write it flawlessly. Anyway, could you then perhaps help me with yet another sentence?
- Only after D-503 has described his enthusiasm for the One State, does he actually introduce himself as the writer of the diary and builder of the spaceship Integral.
Is it okay to start with only after and then, in the second sentence part continue with does he? Perhaps it would be better to say , he actually introduces, but I'm not sure. Thank you. 83.83.1.229 22:58, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- The way you said it is the best way. Replacing "does he introduce" with "he actually introduces" would be wrong in this case. --WikiTiki89 08:26, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
