Etymology edit

Inherited from Middle English Wyndelsore, from Old English Windlesōra (Windsor, literally bank with a windlass, winch by the riverside), from *windel ("reel, winch"; > Middle English windel (reel, spool)) + ōra (bank, shore).[1] See windlass.
