Etymology
edit
From older atordir, from a- + tordo (“thrush”) + -ir, based on the similarity between the thrush's flight and the scrambled movement of someone who has been dazed or stunned (compare French étourdir).[1]
Pronunciation
edit
- IPA(key): /atuɾˈdiɾ/ [a.t̪uɾˈð̞iɾ]
- Rhymes: -iɾ
- Syllabification: a‧tur‧dir
aturdir (first-person singular present aturdo, first-person singular preterite aturdí, past participle aturdido)
