- (predicatively) shame, pity, too bad (something regrettable; used with a subordinate clause)
- Milyen kár, hogy nem jöhetsz velünk. ― What a pity that you can't come with us.
- Kár, hogy nem voltam ott! ― Too bad I wasn't there!
- (predicatively) waste, something useless, pointless, or futile, not being worth the bother/trouble (used with -ért or an infinitive)
- Kár erről beszélni. ― It's useless to talk about this.
