13th century. From Old Galician and Old Portuguese mesturar, from a Late Latin mixturo, mixturare, from Latin mixtūra, participle of misceō (to mix), from Proto-Indo-European *meiǵ-, *meiḱ- (to mix). Cognate with Portuguese misturar.
