German edit

Etymology edit

From Middle High German sliunec (hastily), from Old High German sliumo, sniumo (immediately, literally moving quickly), from or related to Proto-West Germanic *sniumijan (to hurry). The -l/n replacement seems to have been produced by assimilation on account of the suffix -n.

  • IPA(key): /ˈʃlɔɪ̯nɪk/ (common form in southern Germany, Austria, and Switzerland)
