An area word for "night"; Compare Proto-Hmong-Mien *ʰməŋH (night), Proto-Bahnaric *maŋ (night), Burmese မည်း (many:, dark; black) (Schuessler, 2007).

STEDT compares it to Proto-Sino-Tibetan *muːŋ ~ r/s-muːk (foggy; dark; sullen; menacing; thunder).
