Cognate to Korean 나무 (namu); see there for more. Unlike all mainland dialect forms, the Jeju form is not from either of the Middle Korean allomorphs but appears to come separately from ancestral *나ᄆᆞᆨ (Yale: *nàmòk), with the merger of /m/ and /k/ into a velar nasal following the loss of the minimal vowel.
