Via other European languages, ultimately borrowed from Latin intonō (to thunder, to resound), made into a second-conjugation verb (ending -ēt).

  1. (linguistics) to intonate, to produce an intonation (to pronounce a syllable, a word, a sentence etc. with a specific tonal melody)

    krītoši intonēta zilbea syllable pronounced with falling intonation (lit. intonated fallingly)
  2. (music) to intonate (to produce a musical piece with a certain intonation)
