Borrowed from a Central Asian language during the Han Dynasty (Laufer, 1967). Compare Tibetan བུག་སུག(bug sug, alfalfa; bird's-foot trefoil), Ladakhi [script needed](bukhsukh, Nepeta salviaefolia).
