Proto-Indo-EuropeanEdit

EtymologyEdit

Has been suggested to contain an element *ḱm̥t, possibly from *ḱomt (hand), in which case *de-ḱm̥t could mean originally “two hands.” Compare Proto-Finnic *kümmen (10) and Finnish kämmen (palm). Also note Finnish -toista (component in number names from 11 to 19) and its Proto-Uralic origin *to (that). Do not disregard Finnish toistakymmentä (more than ten but usually less than fifteen). See also Proto-Germanic *handuz and Proto-Indo-European *ḱm̥tóm.

NumeralEdit

cardinal number
10 Previous: *h₁néwn̥
Next: *dwi(h₁)dḱm̥ti

*déḱm̥ (uninflected, probably) (collective form: *déḱm̥t, ordinal: *déḱm̥tos, *deḱm̥Hós)

  1. ten
