From Proto-Semitic, related to the root ص ف ح(ṣ-f-ḥ). Akin to Ge'ez ጻሕል (ṣaḥl, bowl, jar, pan), Hebrew צֵלָחָת(selāḥāṯ, pot), Hebrew צַלַּחַת(sallaḥáṯ, dish, bowl), Aramaic צְלֹוחִיתָא‎ / ܨܠ݀ܿܘܚܺܝܬܐ(ṣlōẖīṯā, jar).
