From ปัณฑุ (“yellowish white; red”) + กัมพล (“flannel; wool; woolen”); ultimately from Pali paṇḍukambala, from paṇḍu (“yellowish white”) + kambala (“flannel; wool; woolen”). Compare Khmer បណ្ឌុកម្ពល (bɑɑndukmpɔɔl); Sanskrit पाण्डुकम्बल (pāṇḍukambala).

- (Buddhism and Hinduism mythology) the throne of the Buddhist/Hindu god Indra, located under a coral tree in the heaven of Tāvatiṃsa, made of stone, but as soft as wool, being red in colour.

- And underneath that tree is a seat of crystal stone, known by the name of Red Wool. It is 480,000 fathoms long, 40,000 fathoms wide, and 120,000 fathoms thick. It is deep, vivid red as a scarlet mallow flower, soft as a fabric mattress, and pliable as the crest of a golden royal swan. Once Indra sits upon that stone sheet, the stone sheet will become soft and sunken like a navel. Once he, Indra, rises from the stone, that stone will become full as before.
