  • The word may at times be construed as a feminine singular. Though considered nonstandard in all contexts, it is somewhat current in the nominative and accusative cases (e.g. die USA hat for die USA haben). It is more ungrammatical in the dative case after prepositions (thus very rarely in der USA for in den USA).
