editEtymology
editCognate with Erzya ор (or). Compare оршамс (oršams, “to put on (an item of clothing)”) [the shorter щамс (ščams) is more common in this sense], SKES and UEW link Erzya oršta-, orča- and Moksha šča-, uršta- with dialectal Finnish verha (“a curtain; dress”) (from which Finnish verho (“curtain”)) and possibly Estonian võru (“circle; wreath”).[1] EES, however, links võru with Finnish varho (“trace left by a wheel”), it does not list Mordvinic cognates.[2]
