Either a semantic variation of Etymology 2 via the specialization “half of suit/dress” → skirt or derived from Proto-Slavic *polti (“to twine, to wind, to lace”). Compare Bulgarian поли́ pl (polí, “fells, mountain slopes”), Russian пол (pol, “floor, expanse”).
