In Mainland China, 逮捕 refer to pretrial detention authorized by the procuratorate, which is equivalent to 羈押羁押 (jīyā) in Taiwan and Macau. The apprehension of criminal suspects (whether in flagrante delicto or not) is known as 刑事拘留 (xíngshì jūliú) (刑拘 (xíngjū) in short).
