- Points of specific note:
- サボテン has alternate kanji of 覇王樹, which were once also read サホウテイ. Apparently the plant imported from China and originally under that name had some sort of detergent quality? Hence the confusion with Portuguese sabao? Sounds like a succulent as opposed to a proper spiny cactus. Must re-read...
