From the same stem as adīt (“to knit”) (with an extra -at): Proto-Baltic *ad-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁edʰ-, *h₁odʰ- (“pointed, sharp”). Cognates include Lithuanian ãdata.[1]

Probably from adyti (“to darn, sew”), or a related form. Cognate to Latvian adata (see above), the suffix is -ata.
