Etymology 1Edit

Uncertain. Perhaps cognate with Lao ຂຸນ (khun), ᦃᦳᧃ (ẋun), Shan ၶုၼ် (khǔn), Ahom 𑜁𑜤𑜃𑜫 (khun). Compare Old Khmer khuṇa (a noble rank), Modern Khmer ឃុន (khun); Middle Chinese (MC kɨun).
