Hello, please don't add interwikis as there is a bot to do it. You'll find a bot can update a few thousand pages a lot faster than a person can. Thanks. Mglovesfun (talk) 17:01, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Since no one's given you these links before:

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing page for a similar word, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary, though it may be a bit technical and longwinded. The most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
  • A glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
  • If you have anything to ask about or suggest, we have several discussion rooms. Feel free to ask any other editors in person if you have any problems or question, by posting a message on their talk page.

You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage. This shows which languages you know, so other editors know which languages you'll be working on, and what they can ask you for help with.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.

Again, welcome!

Thanks for the Kurdish entries. It would be nice to link to the Arabic alphabet forms too, if we have them. See anđelić for an example of how we do something similar with Serbo-Croatian. Ƿidsiþ 11:34, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Kurdish given namesEdit

no stands for Norwegian, I think you want {{given name|male|lang=ku}} (for Kurdish). Mglovesfun (talk) 11:42, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

yesGeorge Animal 11:43, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

You seem to be using templates at random. Do you know what you are doing? SemperBlotto 12:43, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

sorry but I wanted to...George Animal 12:45, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

wezîrê karûbarên derveEdit

Hi there. I have improved this page, especially by wikifying the individual words. I was surprised that we don't have entries for any of them. SemperBlotto 11:14, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

I thank you, I will creat them.--Best regards.George Animal 11:17, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Italian noun and adjective formsEdit

There is no need to add these manually. We have a bot that generates them automagically. SemperBlotto 16:41, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Header levelsEdit

==Kurdish== (and so on) must have exactly two equals signs at each side, if it's three, KassadBot (talkcontribs) will tag these as having no language. Mglovesfun (talk) 17:42, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks a lot.:)George Animal 17:46, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

The plural form doesn't existEdit

Please check before removing plural forms. In many cases we already have the plurals as entries, and they're valid. Mglovesfun (talk) 18:19, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

And here.George Animal 18:25, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Yeah but those aren't relevant, especially since they're wrong. Mglovesfun (talk) 18:29, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Try Google. Look for Kindheiten. You'll find many uses, e.g. a book Traumatische Kindheiten, etc. de.wikt forgets some cases. Lmaltier 18:31, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Background colorEdit

Can you change the background color of this talk page to a light color, such as white or very light brown? Black letters on brown background are fairly hard to read; even harder to read on brown background are the magenta or violet colors of followed hyperlinks. --Dan Polansky 09:06, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for making the background color lighter.

Could you add {{Babel}} to your user page? Something like {{Babel|ku|en-3}} if you are Kurdish who speaks English well, or whatever fits. --Dan Polansky 14:15, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Verb forms need a head word in bold, either manually of using {{head|ku}}. I've just fixed 20 right now. Mglovesfun (talk) 15:38, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Hey there, I'm really glad to see some attention being paid to Kurdish. I'd really like to have declension and conjugation templates (like devrim#Declension and کردن#Conjugation). If you'd like, I can help with these, and if you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask me. — [Ric Laurent] — 16:47, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi Laurent,
Thanks a lot.Maybe, you can help me by fixing this template.I will show you what should be there. Thanks again!:)George Animal 16:14, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
Sure, what needs to be fixed? — [Ric Laurent] — 16:47, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

I wanted to add the future perfect, present perfect, subjunctive forms, but there were some problems and that's why I couldn't complete it beacuse there are 5 verb forms (verb classes) in Kurdish (Kurmanji) and I couldn't integrate them.I hope, you can understand my problem.George Animal 16:53, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Of course, I run into problems all the time. I think the place to start is to make Template:ku-conj/head which will define the standard shape of the template and we can have templates for the different verb classes. — [Ric Laurent] — 17:17, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Important questionEdit

Are 1st/2nd/3rd person plural forms always the same? If not, I need to change the whole template :) — [Ric Laurent] — 18:29, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes, and in the simple past/present perfect all persons are the same.George Animal 18:33, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Alright. In present tense, is there only one form for all the plurals, or are there different ones for "we", "you","they"? — [Ric Laurent] — 18:35, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
No only the plural forms are the same. But how I said, the simple past and present forms are the same, for all persons.George Animal 18:37, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Also by other verb classes this is the same thing.George Animal 18:38, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Can you add a new parameter for past. The sumple past form is used to make other tenses, like present perfect, past perfect, future and future perfect. For example kirîn =to buy: simplae past: kirî, present perfect me kiriye, simple future ezê bikirim and future perfect ezê kiribim.George Animal 18:41, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
I'm working on a new head template now. — [Ric Laurent] — 18:51, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Is past perfect the same for all persons? — [Ric Laurent] — 18:54, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes, they areGeorge Animal 18:55, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Alright, we're gonna do this and it's going to be awesome :) I'm working on it now. — [Ric Laurent] — 19:05, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Round 2Edit

Alright, have a look at this frame - User:Dick Laurent/Template:ku-conj-head[Ric Laurent] — 19:40, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
It is very cool and looks nice. Thanks, thanks.:)George Animal 19:42, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Absolutely, I'm enjoying this a lot :) Ok, look at these
You listed the simple past of betilandin as betil, so that gives this
It's still missing the imperatives, though — [Ric Laurent] — 19:53, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Serhildan and revolutionEdit

Hi, George! You wrote that the meaning of serhildan was revolution. Doesn't serhildan originally mean «to raise one's head»? A revolution implies a deep change of power or at least of the way a Society lives, works or thinks (like the Industrial Revolution). A revolt, however, does not always lead to such a change, and the situation may return to what it was before that revolt. So in my way, serhildan can be better translated by uprising or insurrection. CathFR (talk) 20:26, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, that was my own fault, I have corrected it.ThanksGeorge Animal (talk) 15:02, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Kurdische ÜbersetzungenEdit

Hi George,

Was meinst Du? Matthias Buchmeier (talk) 10:49, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Hallo Matthias
Matthias Buchmeier (talk) 13:39, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

nerm and hişkEdit

You've defined these both as "soft" — which, by the way, is not a very useful definition (since "soft" has many different meanings, and the entries give no indication of which sense you have in mind) — but then you listed them as antonyms. Are you sure that's what you meant to do?

RuakhTALK 19:36, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi Ruakh,
I have forgotten it but I have corrected it.Thanks for the information.George Animal (talk) 09:09, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Templates: Template:subst:User:GeorgeAnimal/ku-conj-tin-alleFormen u.s.w verschobenEdit

Matthias Buchmeier (talk) 15:48, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Na klar.Das werde ich machen.Ich habe zu Formen von -andin neue Zeitformen hinzugefüght.Die Konjunktiv-Formen.Danke und liebe GrüßeGeorgeAnimal. 15:51, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
PS: In deinem Verbkonjugationstemplate fehlt anscheinend noch ein <<-start->> Tag vor dem Eintrag für bişewitînin bzw bitewînin u.s.w. Ausserdem scheinen die pluperfect Formen des Subjunktiv noch zu fehlen. Matthias Buchmeier (talk) 15:54, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Meinst du die Konjunktiv-Plusquamperfektformen.Die habe ich gerade hinzugefügt.15:56, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Perfekt-Konjunktiv-Formen habe ich auch gerade hinzugefügt.Soll ich die restlichen Verbformen wieder auf deiner Bot-Kurdish-Fedd me schreiben?.GeorgeAnimal. 15:58, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Jetzt werde ich Konjunktivpräsensformen auch eintragen.Damit dein Bot sie auch mitberücksichtigen kann.Liebe GrüßeGeorgeAnimal. 15:59, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

You have contributed a lot to the [[Template:ku-noun]]. Can you add to it the categories [[Category:Kurdish masculine nouns]], [[Category:Kurdish feminine nouns]], and [[Category:Kurdish masculine and feminine nouns]]? Thank you in advance! Sae1962 (talk) 11:21, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Is this really redundant to {{ku-decl}}? Is it not better to have a template specifically for nouns? Nb these are not rhetorical questions as I don't speak Kurdish. Mglovesfun (talk) 17:14, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Is the template Template:ku-decl-noun better?--GeorgeAnimal. 17:17, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
The content of the template ku-decl-noun is redundant to the other template.--GeorgeAnimal. 17:19, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Turkish-speaker advice needed on whether to delete some categories and templatesEdit

I recently nominated for deletion a block of categories and templates. These were for grammatical categories that would be wrong for most languages. I don't speak Turkish, however.

Your Babel box says you're a native speaker of Turkish, and you've been active on Wiktionary recently. I would appreciate it if you could look at the sections for the categories and for the templates and comment on whether they're useful, whether they should be deleted, and why (or why not). Is ê the IPA character or rather the spelling? See WT:TR#Rhymes:Kurdish:-êv. Mglovesfun (talk) 17:39, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

ê is not a IPA character but the words which end with ê have the same pronounciation at the end, IPA:[eː].The pronounciation is like er in verb aller, double e in French.GeorgeAnimal. 17:45, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Kürtçeyle ilgili bir soruEdit

Bildiğim kadarıyla Kürtçenin üç ana lehçesi var. Acaba Kürtçede dilbilimciler arasında w:tr:Romanşçada olduğu gibi ortak bir üstdil oluşturma çabası içinde olanlar var mı? Sae1962 (talk) 21:11, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Hey there. You nominated kirin for Foreign Word of the Day. Can you cite the second sense (marry)? The pronunciation is strange (there’s an inexplicable / and vocalic ‘ɫ’s); is it correct? Having the Arabic spelling would also be nice. If you can do that I’ll add it to the nearest available day (currently October 28th). — Ungoliant (Falai) 04:51, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi Ungoliant
Thanks for stomach (for) kirin.I have fixed the pronounciation (my fault), added the needed cite and the the Arabic spelling.OK?Best regards--GeorgeAnimal. 14:13, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, added it. CodeCat added some FWOTDs a few hours ago so the nearest available day was November 1st. I’d like you to take a look at the pronunciation again. You had added a non-IPA character (ı), I assumed that you mistyped ɪ, but I might be wrong. — Ungoliant (Falai) 15:09, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
Hello again. Metaknowledge asked (here) that كرن be created before we have kirin as a FWOTD. Could you do that? Thanks. — Ungoliant (Falai) 18:27, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
One more thing: I would also appreciate it greatly if you could translate the Turkish quote at batman. Thank you very much! —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 19:04, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

Latvian adjective forms?Edit

Hi GeorgeAnimal! You offered to help me with form-of pages in Latvian. I left a short explanation of these pages in my talk page, so you can tell me if this is enough. Let me know when you might have time to help me. And thanks for the offer! --Pereru (talk) 01:31, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Latvian form-of fileEdit

Hi George! Ok, here is my attempt at writing the file you requested, with all the form-op pages carefully laid out (including the definite, comparative definite, comparative indefinite, superlative, and adverbial forms). Is this all, or do you need something else? --Pereru (talk) 19:19, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. This is what I requested.--I would have been better if you had separated them so that I can see what is what so that the bor won't created the wrong forms.Could you separate the part of definite, indef. etc ?ThanksGeorgeAnimal. 19:25, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
The forms you wanted were already in the list, but there were mistakes in the code (in "vistievākos", the {{{1}}} in the page name had only two closing }} instead of three }}} by mistake). So maybe if you rerun the bot now all the forms will be created?
I've also added divisions showing where the indefinite, definite, indefinite comparative, definite comparative, and superlative forms are (search for '---HERE BEGINS'). I hope this is what you need! --Pereru (talk) 16:14, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

A problem (Latvian)Edit

It looks as if I did the {{{subst: thing wrong for tukls: in most of the forms you created there is an extra s (I probably wrote tukls rather than tukl). Sorry! Can those pages be deleted and replaced with the correct ones? --Pereru (talk) 19:37, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

ich habe delete-tag gesetzt und Metaknowledge löscht sie gerade.Könntest du beim nächsten Mal bisschen vorsichtiger sein, sodass solche Fehler nicht entstehen.Danke und liebe Grüße--GeorgeAnimal. 19:02, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
Ich habe umgebracht sie jetzt. (Forgive my crappy German...) —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 19:10, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the deletion of the pages.

Danke! --Pereru (talk) 11:34, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Can you add the translation of the quotation? Also, the link says “21 Adar, 2013,” but the day is listed as 27. If possible, the name of the article’s author would be nice too, but I couldn’t find it. Thanks. — Ungoliant (Falai) 13:13, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

I have added the translation. But the author of the text is not give.Regards--GeorgeAnimal. 12:23, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Splitting KurdishEdit

Can you comment here? Thanks. — Ungoliant (Falai) 19:19, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Almanca Vikisözlük'te bâzı şablonlar var. Tartışmalardan sonra bunlara lüzum olmadığına ve kullanıldıkları sayfalarda {{subst:<şablon>}} ile değiştirilmelerine karar verildi. Yani işlemlerden sonra bu şablonlar tamamen silinebilecek. Bu işlemi yapabilecek birilerine tanıyor musun?--Sae1962 (talk) 09:14, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

ewrkirin and tarîkirinEdit

Hello George Animal. Would you mind creating entries for the Kurdish words ewrkirin and tarîkirin, please? The former is listed on your user subpage, User:George Animal/5; both have entries on Wîkîferheng (see ku:ewrkirin and ku:tarîkirin). They are apparently translations of the English word obnubilation in one or more of its senses. Thanks in advance. — I.S.M.E.T.A. 14:08, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi dear friend,
Thanks a lot. I have created the both entries. :) Best regards--GeorgeAnimal. 15:23, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks very much. Could you tell me in what sense(s) ewrkirin equates to the English obnubilation, please? Judging by what I assume to be its etymology (ewr (cloud) +‎ kirin (make)), it equates to the literal sense “veiling with or concealment in clouds”, but does it also mean one or more of obnubilation's other three senses? And as for tarîkirin, is it a valid translation of obnubilation in the sense “action of darkening or fact of being darkened”? What about in obnubilation's other senses? Lastly, how do ewrkirin and tarîkirin decline? Do they decline at all? They appear, to my ignorant eye, to be gerunds from the phrases ewr kirin and tarî kirin, respectively; does that mean they're undeclinable? Thanks for your help and sorry about posting so many questions! — I.S.M.E.T.A. 13:58, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
in the sense "A veiling with or concealment in clouds." "ewrkirin" equates to the English obnubilation. Yes, the phrases ewr kirin and tarî kirin are gerunds.
"tarîkirin" and "ewrkirin" are substantived forms of "tarî kirin" and "ewr kirin" and they are declinable.-- best regards--GeorgeAnimal. 19:38, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
OK, thank you. I have verified ewrkirin accordingly. What should I do with {{t-check|ku|tarîkirin}}? — I.S.M.E.T.A. 14:42, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
I have added other meanings.--GeorgeAnimal. 22:48, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. Shall I just remove the {{t-check|ku|tarîkirin}} from obnubilation#Translations, then? — I.S.M.E.T.A. 18:55, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
Hi, I have removed it.--GeorgeAnimal. 23:33, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. — I.S.M.E.T.A. 12:28, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

And this too kelex (corpse(?)) please. --Giorgi Eufshi (talk) 14:33, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
