merre
EstonianEdit
NounEdit
merre
HungarianEdit
EtymologyEdit
Lexicalization of mely (“which direction? which place?”, interrogative pronoun) + -re (case suffix).[1]
PronunciationEdit
AdverbEdit
merre
- where? which way? in which direction?
- Merre van kelet? ― Which way is east?
- where? (at which place?)
- Synonym: hol?
Usage notesEdit
Merre? is more vague than hol? when asking about a place. Hol can easily imply asking for the exact address (or at least the specific location), while merre will be content finding out the neighborhood, the district, or perhaps even only the direction (in accordance with the first meaning).
