Alternative formsEdit

EtymologyEdit

The original meaning may be "meet, interact" or "carefree". Old Chinese: *greːs groːs (possibly an expressive reduplication).

Schuessler considers this a derivative of (“to loosen”) and (“lazy, remiss”), citing the sense of "carefree and happy" in Shijing. Numerous variant forms are found throughout history.
