Hungarian terms that are no longer in current use, but found in older texts.

The following label generates this category: obsoleteedit. To generate this category using this label, use {{lb|hu|label}}.

  • Category:Hungarian obsolete forms: Hungarian terms that are found in older texts and are no longer in current use, because they changed in comparison with recent general use.

In accordance with the general guidelines, obsolete is meant to be used where a term or its specified meaning is not in use anymore, unknown even for educated speakers, with the exception of linguists specialized in the history of the language.

As a rule of thumb, with a view to the accepted periods in Hungarian language history, this label is to be used for terms and senses that are attested to have existed any time before the beginning of the Modern Hungarian period, 1772 but not afterwards. (Compare archaic and dated terms/senses in Hungarian.)

Due to this definition, these terms and meanings are not included in {{R:Nagyszotar}}[1] or in {{R:ErtSz}}. However, they are included in other etymological sources, especially {{R:UESz}} and/or {{R:Zaicz 2006}}/{{R:Zaicz 2021}}, or possibly {{R:RégiMagyarSzavak 2012}} (though without the specific period supplied in the latter).
