Etymology edit

The character with a handakuten.

Pronunciation edit

Syllable edit

と゚ (romaji tu)

  1. (nonstandard) (obsolete) The hiragana syllable と゚ (tu). Its equivalent in katakana is ト゚ (tu).

Usage notes edit

This character is a borrowing from the Ainu syllable ト゚, and is not included in JIS X 0213.

During the Edo period, some tōon literary materials used this kana to transcribe the Chinese syllable /tu/. This is no longer common today, as とぅ is preferred for all transcriptions of /tu/ instead.
